By Thornton Crowe (Published on Salisbury News) We often see in the news and TMZ, celebrities becoming more vocal about their personal politics. This phenomenon only provokes the question, “Do they really mean what they say or are they just saying these things to keep their names out there in the airwaves?” It seems the Liberal celebrity gets away with saying some of the most hateful rhetoric while the Conservatives are scorned. For example, Whoopi Goldberg released a statement about relocating out of the US if Donald Trump becomes president as well as other liberal celebrities and you have to wonder, where would she go? In the commentary of a recent post, someone raised this very question. She certainly couldn’t move to any communist country, as free speech is not something thei
Watching the news and seeing Hillary Clinton’s continuous denials of any wrongdoing is getting old to watch. She constantly changes her story and words to emanate that she has done nothing wrong even though it’s established fact that she was not allowed to use a private server for her emails dealing with State Department business. She is getting to the point of looking like her skirt-chasing hubby when he said, “I did not have sexual relations with that woman…” Just because you repeat the same meme like some mindless robot, doesn’t make it so. Who does she think she’s fooling? Her poll numbers are plummeting, Liberals are opting for the Socialist rantings of Bernie Sanders as opposed to staying in her camp and some spokespeople (celebrities) are being to distance themselves from her camp
By Thornton Crowe (As seen on Salisbury News) Ridiculous as it seems, this seems to be new du jour. Parliament is now ruling whether or not to ban Donald Trump from the United Kingdom. Petitions in hand, British Legislators are ruling whether Trump is banned from doing business or visiting but is it really any of their business what goes on in our political arena? Trump has never weighed in on their politics and, should he become the next President of the United States, it would not be an advantageous gesture on the UK’s part to alienate a leader from a nation that has seen them through several historical conflicts and wars. For the sake of common sense and prudence, perhaps the UK should concentrate on their own inner-turmoil with their Muslim communities and practice isolationism
Many historians have conclude, based on documentation, the Civil Rights Law was another ‘forced into glory’ situation (like Lincoln) because we could not demonize other countries for lack of equality when we did not act in accordance with our own rhetoric during the Cold War. Meaning, the signing of the Civil Rights Law was a political propagandic maneuver, not a moralistic need to bring equality. Even with Civil Rights becoming law, it was not until Nixon (a Republican) who enforced it through the Supreme Court. The result was busing and school integration as well as the end of overt Jim Crow in the South. Johnson never made any gestures after the signing to actually implement the legislation; it was merely a gratuitous action. Digging deeper into historic documentation, Democrats have
By Thornton Crowe (first published on Salisbury News) One could argue for things like Welfare and Affirmative Action under the premise of leveling the playing field for underprivileged; however, do these mindsets really inspire people to succeed or does it hide the perpetuation of the continuum of inequality under a veil of feel-good verb? There can be no true equality in life or a country. Economists like Thomas Sowell disagree that legislative tampering like Affirmative Action and Welfare has done anything positive for minority communities. In fact, he rebukes both, stating it makes it harder for the economic challenged to get ahead and stifles their creativity in making their mark in society and assured self-preservation. Affirmative Action has become a quota-filling apparatus ba...
By Thornton Crowe (First Published on Salisbury News) Over the years I am stunned at those little moments on TV where reporters go out and ask the ‘man on the street’ where a country is or who the first president of the US’s name; only to find that people have no idea about of people, events and history going on around them. It is striking to me more and more that Common Core is having a field day, dummying down our youth but a lot of the folks interviewed are adults – not kids. Benghazi was and will never be a guy named Ben Ghazi and Lincoln was not our first President. Interestingly, as we round to his birthday month, I have long been curious as to why the Black community herald’s Lincoln as one of their ‘heroes.’ The truth is, he was a separatist in every sense of the word. He ne
By Thornton Crowe (first published on Salisbury News) As the media trumps the three-month 5% unemployment numbers like it was a great accolade on behalf of the Obama camp, one finds that most people are not buying it. Salisbury has sustained several closings and layoffs over the last year, leaving us with a rising unemployment – now up to 7% in Wicomico County. Mind you, this figure does not include the following: under-employed – part-time workers who want full-time work, benefits expired/exhausted, unqualified for unemployment insurance and jobseekers that have simply given up. One quick look on Careerbuilders.com – which tells you how many have applied for any given position – you’ll find some jobs have 300+ applicants. Yet, Day’s first bold statement is to hire a Marketing Firm
It was never meant to be a life-long career… With familiarity comes both contempt and perpetuation of rut, so why do citizens continue to advocate and subscribe to the same politicians, election after election? While on a local level this can be damaging to a community such as Salisbury because one needs to have the ability to shakes things up a bit. Having the same mayors, council members and such, year in and year out, it becomes a tedious drill of lip service with no tangible return for a person’s vote. The same potholes remain along with all the other complaints campaign promises are built on – yet as citizens, we allow it. Looking at the Federal arena, it is staggering how long people are elected to do the same horrible job they’ve done for decades. Barbara Milkulski has frankly
What happened to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty in a court of law? The mass media machine has been convicting suspects before trial since Lee Harvey Oswald in November 1963 but now, the epidemic of this Constitutional infringement has reached an unfathomable proportion. In today’s world of fast facts, we find ourselves inundated with information on suspects within hours of criminal investigations, thus, spurring a rush to judgment. A new documentary has introduced a new dialogue about the media role in convictions that will surely have you questioning where the lines are truly drawn in our society. On December 18, 2015, Netflix premiered one of its newest documentaries called Making a Murderer, featuring the story of Steven Avery. Born and raised in Manitowoc
The Final Text of the Declaration of Independence July 4 1776 The following is a wonderful history of the Declaration of Independence along with its final text. All Americans should know the ruling documents of our country! Livingston , and Roger Sherman was appointed to draft a Declaration of Independence.
